CMA exam results: the six week rule counted from month end

IMA counts the six weeks from the end of your testing month, so a test on the 3rd and one on the 28th get results at the same time.

By , editorReviewed Checked against 3 official sources

Short answer

IMA releases CMA exam results approximately six weeks after the end of the month in which you took the test, and emails you when your grades are available. The count starts at the end of your testing month, not on your test day.

The six week rule

IMA does not publish a results date for each testing window. Its rule is that results are released approximately six weeks after the end of the month in which you tested. Like any "approximately" rule, the exact day can vary.

Why the month matters

Because the six weeks start at the end of the month, everyone who tests in the same month is on the same clock. A test on May 3 and a test on May 28 are both counted from May 31. Testing early in a month means a longer wait; testing late in a month, a shorter one.

Testing windows

The CMA exam is given in three testing windows each year: January and February, May and June, and September and October. You pick any available date within a window, but you must test during one.

How results reach you

IMA emails you when your grades are available, and the results are added to your IMA transcript, where you can track your progress through the program.

The performance report

If you do not pass a part, Prometric emails a performance report, usually about 14 days after your results are posted. It rates each topic area of the multiple-choice section as satisfactory, marginal or unsatisfactory, and shows your overall performance on the essay section.
