CFA results timing: the 5 to 9 week rule and announced dates

Results come 5 to 9 weeks after the window closes, counted from its last day. Sometimes CFA Institute names the date in advance.

Short answer

CFA Institute says results arrive within 5 to 9 weeks after your exam window closes, by email. It does not list exact dates on its results page, but it sometimes announces them in a press release, as it did for August 2026 Level II and III.

The 5 to 9 week rule

CFA Institute's results page gives one rule for all three levels: within 5 to 9 weeks after the close of your exam window, you receive an email saying your official results are available. It gives no time of day.

Five to nine weeks is a wide range, about a month from start to end. Treat the early end as the first day results are likely and the late end as the point to start asking questions.

Why the window close matters

CFA exams are given over a testing window of several days, not on one date. The 5 to 9 weeks count from the last day of the window, not from the day you tested. Someone who tested on the first day of a window waits longer than the rule suggests if they count from their own test day.

For example, the November 2026 Level I window runs from November 11 to 17. The 5 to 9 weeks count from November 17, which puts results between December 22, 2026 and January 19, 2027.

Dates CFA Institute announces

Sometimes CFA Institute names a date in advance. Its press release of September 24, 2026, reporting August 2026 Level I results, also said:

  • Level II results would be released to candidates on September 30, 2026.
  • Level III results would be released to candidates on October 20, 2026.

When a date is announced like this, it replaces the estimate. We show it as an official date and record the change in the update log. Where no date is announced, the estimate from the rule stays in place and is labeled as such.

What your result shows

  • A result of pass or fail.
  • Your performance by topic.
  • An overall scale score, which lets you compare your performance with the minimum passing score.

Candidates who pass Level III do not receive detailed results.
