How it works
How bar results are released.
The bar exam is written largely by NCBE, but results come from each jurisdiction's own board.
Each board sets its own date
There is no national results day. Every state or territory board announces its own date, usually one to three months after the exam.
Results go to your applicant account
Boards post results to each applicant's portal or account first. Very few publish a release time in advance.
Pass lists follow
Many boards publish a public list of passing applicants on the same day or a few days later.
Admission comes next
Passing is one step. Character and fitness review, the MPRE and a swearing-in ceremony can still be required before you are licensed.
NextGen UBE
The bar exam is changing.
NCBE's NextGen UBE was given for the first time in July 2026. The current UBE continues through February 2028, and large jurisdictions including New York and Texas switch in July 2028.
- July 2026: first NextGen UBE, given in 10 jurisdictions.
- February 2027: no jurisdiction gives the NextGen UBE, according to NCBE.
- February 2028: last administration of the current UBE.
- July 2028: New York, Texas, Florida, New Jersey and North Carolina have announced the switch.
