Short answer
The CPA Exam moves to a new delivery platform on July 12, 2027, with no testing from July 1 to 11. For the 12 months after the launch, AICPA releases scores on a quarterly schedule, because it has to recalibrate exam items using data from the new platform.
What changes in July 2027
AICPA says that beginning in July 2027 the CPA Exam will move to a new technology delivery platform, with changes to the user interface. The key dates are:
- July 1 to 11, 2027: no CPA Exam testing while the new software is deployed.
- July 12, 2027: testing resumes on the new platform.
- July 2027 to June 2028: an adjusted score release schedule for the 12 months after launch.
AICPA's announcement covers the delivery platform and the interface, such as navigation, accessibility features and screen layout. It does not describe a change to what the exam tests.
Why scores slow down
Changing how questions are shown can change how they perform. AICPA says that before scores can be reported, it must recalibrate exam items using real candidate responses collected after the new platform launches, so that scoring stays accurate and fair. That takes time, which is why scores move from a rolling schedule to a quarterly one for a year.
In practice, Core sections, which normally have a target date every few weeks, get one release per testing period, the same rhythm Discipline sections already follow.
Target dates, July 2027 to June 2028
The last release on the regular schedule is Tuesday, Jul 13, 2027, for Core exam data received by June 30, 2027. After that, AICPA has published these target dates:
| Sections | Tested | Target release date |
|---|---|---|
| Discipline (BAR, ISC, TCP) | Jul 12 to Aug 12, 2027 | Tuesday, Sep 28, 2027 |
| Core (AUD, FAR, REG) | Jul 12 to Sep 30, 2027 | Tuesday, Oct 19, 2027 |
| Discipline (BAR, ISC, TCP) | Oct 1 to 31, 2027 | Friday, Dec 17, 2027 |
| Core (AUD, FAR, REG) | Oct 1 to Dec 15, 2027 | Tuesday, Dec 28, 2027 |
| Discipline (BAR, ISC, TCP) | Jan 1 to 31, 2028 | Friday, Mar 17, 2028 |
| Core (AUD, FAR, REG) | Jan 1 to Mar 15, 2028 | Tuesday, Mar 28, 2028 |
| Discipline (BAR, ISC, TCP) | Apr 1 to 30, 2028 | Friday, Jun 16, 2028 |
| Core (AUD, FAR, REG) | Apr 1 to Jun 15, 2028 | Tuesday, Jun 27, 2028 |
All of these are target dates, which AICPA says can change. We update them on the 2027 CPA calendar when AICPA does.
Planning around the change
The schedule itself suggests a few things to weigh when you pick test dates. These are observations from the dates, not advice from AICPA.
- A Core section taken in mid-July 2027 has a target date of October 19, 2027, about three months later. The same section taken in June 2027 is on the regular schedule, with a target date of July 13, 2027 if AICPA receives the data by June 30.
- Discipline windows keep a similar rhythm, but the first window after launch runs from July 12 to August 12, 2027, with a target date of September 28, 2027.
- If you have other deadlines tied to receiving a score, such as a credit window or a job start, check them against these quarterly dates with your state board.
