Short answer
CFP Board gives you a preliminary result immediately after the exam. The official result arrives by email approximately 4 weeks after the testing window closes. CFP Board does not give official results by phone, text or fax.
Two results, weeks apart
- Preliminary result: shown to you right after you take the exam at the test center.
- Official result: delivered by email approximately 4 weeks after the testing window closes. This is the result CFP Board verifies.
Counted from the window close
The CFP exam is given over a testing window of about a week. The four weeks count from the last day of the window, not from your own test day, so candidates who test early in a window wait longer for the official email than those who test on the last day.
Estimated dates through 2027
| Testing window | Official results around |
|---|---|
| October 2026, Oct 29 to Nov 5 | Dec 3, 2026 |
| March 2027, Mar 16 to Mar 23 | Apr 20, 2027 |
| July 2027, Jul 13 to Jul 20 | Aug 17, 2027 |
Estimates: four weeks (28 days) after each window's last day. CFP Board does not publish these dates in advance.
What the official result shows
The official result is pass or fail. If you do not pass, CFP Board includes a diagnostic report of your performance across the Principal Knowledge Topics, showing your relative strengths and weaknesses.
