ACT score release dates and why writing scores come later

Short answer

ACT publishes an initial score release date for each national test date. ACT says over 97% of scores are released within about 2 to 4 weeks. If you took the writing test, your complete scores may come a bit later because every part is processed together.

The initial score release date

ACT's test dates table gives each national test date a score release date, labeled as the initial score release. It is the first day scores for that test date are released. ACT does not publish a time of day.

The gap between test and release varies. In 2026-2027 it runs from 10 days (October 17 to October 27, for example) to 17 days (September 19 to October 6, and February 27 to March 16, 2027).

Why writing scores come later

The writing test is optional. ACT says that if you took it, complete scores including writing may be released a bit later, because all components are processed together. So a missing writing score on the initial release date is expected, not a problem with your test.
